April 5th: National Day of Action for Indigenous Prisoners

Idle No More Kingston (Facebook/Twitter) is organizing a rally on April 5, 2013 at 12pm across from Kingston Penitentiary (560 King St. W) as part of a national day of action for indigenous prisoners. EPIC is encouraging people to attend and support.

From their facebook event:

Why this is important: our brothers and sisters, husbands and wives, mothers and fathers, sons and daughters are suffering in Canada’s institutions under conditions that do not meet the requirements of the UN’s rights of inmates. Our people are doing so in numbers 10X that of the of the Canadian population. This is not sad coincidence, this is the result of policies and laws designed to target FN’s and Canada’s poor, in otherwords we get targeted twice. After which a racist system punishes our people more harshly. Its not an accident, its deliberate acts of continued colonization.

Standing together for justice against colonial, institutional & social injustices in the Canadian system. The location across from KP is the old Prison For Women site. Anyone who wishes to speak to this personally or professionally and through families. Please pm our fb page or email:
